3 great ads I had nothing to do with: Nick Bird and Lee Smith

Bird and Smith are an experienced team who have tackled pretty much every type of brand at some point or other. Over the last decade they’ve produced work and run a wide range of accounts for clients including Amazon, Cancer Research UK, The Co-op, The Department of Health – Anti Smoking and OVO Energy.

They took Yorkshire Tea from third in the market to market leader with the long-running platform “Where everything’s done proper” and their work has been awarded at D&AD, Cannes Lions, BTAA, Campaign Big Awards, Creative Circle, IPA Effectiveness, One Show, Eurobest, Clio, Revolution and Epica.

Maxell “Into the valley”
Howell Henry Chaldecott Lury poked fun at the challenge of deciphering pop lyrics in its multi award winning campaign for Hitachi’s Maxell cassette tapes. The ad won a Cannes Lion Film Grand Prix in 1990.

Snickers “The horseless headman”
This TV ad was BBDO New York’s first Halloween one for the Snickers “You’re not you when you’re hungry” campaign. The spot introduces a hungry twist on a classic character: the Headless Horseman reimagined as the Horseless Headman. The ad was directed by Craig Gillespie, best known for the film Fright Night.

Nike “Nothing beats a Londoner”
Wieden + Kennedy’s ad is an ode to all things London, picking up multiple awards at Cannes Lions, including a Titanium, Grand Prix, three Golds, three Silvers and eight shortlists. The ad celebrates the passionate and fiercely competitive nature of London’s young athletes, depicting a true sense of “one-upmanship”, as real kids and famous faces from the capital take it in turns to express how tough it is to train in their respective sports in the boroughs of London. Its cast features sports stars, musicians and celebrities, including Mo Farah, Dina Asher-Smith, Skepta, Harry Kane and Gareth Southgate.
