Thinkbox appoints Matt Hill as Research and Planning Director

London, 23 October 2014: Thinkbox today announced that Matt Hill, the current Head of Planning and Insight at Channel 5, has been appointed Research and Planning Director at Thinkbox. He will take up the post in early 2015.

Hill will have responsibility for Thinkbox’s research and planning teams and will take a seat on the Thinkbox board. He will report to Lindsey Clay, Thinkbox’s Chief Executive.

Lindsey Clay: “Matt is perfect for the role so we’re delighted he is joining us. We had an exceptionally high calibre of applicants but Matt’s passion, insight and experience stood out. Research and planning are critical to what Thinkbox does and we’re proud of the reputation we have built. Matt is the ideal person to take this into the future.”

Matt Hill: “I'm thrilled to be joining Thinkbox at this exciting time. TV is offering audiences their best ever viewing experience, and continuing to enable advertisers to emotionally connect with them on an unrivalled scale. However, the lure of short-term, easily countable media has made the role of Thinkbox more important than ever. I can't wait to continue their great work, demonstrating TV's unique ability to build long term return on investment for brands.”

Hill has been at Channel 5 since 2006 and as Head of Planning and Insight since 2010. He is the broadcaster’s representative on the BARB board. Prior to Channel 5 he had roles at Virgin Media and Attentional.

Recent Thinkbox research studies include ‘Screen Life: TV advertising everywhere’, which looked at the effects new screens are having on how we watch TV; ‘Payback 4: pathways to profit’, an independent econometric study commissioned from Ebiquity that found TV advertising has become more effective in recent years and creates more sales and profit than any other medium on a like-for-like basis; and ‘#TVTwitter: how advertisers can get closer to conversations’, which looked at how TV viewers are using Twitter to complement their favourite TV content.

Hill replaces Neil Mortensen, who is leaving Thinkbox to become Director of Planning and Research at ITV.
