About The Future of Viewing
This session explored how technology offers new times and places for people to watch TV, how it offers the control which viewers so appreciate and new functionalities and the role for TV broadcasters in the future as on-demand opportunities grow alongside linear scheduled channels. How should they develop their role? And the content itself - will that change? Will people want to watch completely different sorts of programmes from those they enjoy now, and not just watch the same things in different ways? What does 360 degree commissioning mean? How is the content going to be paid for? Will the current financial climate affect the sort of programming that gets made? Will TV need advertising to make more or less of an economic contribution to great TV content?
